The South China Morning Post has swept the 2015 Longines Hong Kong International Races journalism competition, with Andrew Hawkins taking the honours over his Post stablemate, Michael Cox.

The HKIR title sponsor offered the competition this year for the first time and Hawkins landed the prize for his live blog on December 13, a minute by minute report presenting the colour and excitement of Longines international day in real time over almost five hours, from the opening race to the last. That effort nosed out a brilliant feature from Cox detailing the wonderful story behind the Longines Hong Kong Sprint attempt by Mongolian Saturday’s owner Ganbaatar Dagvadorj and trainer Ganbat Enebish.

Hawkins will be formally presented with his prize at a ceremony in London on January 19, the same function that will see the announcement of the Longines World’s Best Race Horse awards.
