Good For You hasn’t had a lot to show for his nine starts so far but the three-year-old is nearing the cellar grade and punters should look for good support for him when that drop happens.
He hasn’t had much luck in most of those nine starts – even the one where he was heavily backed to start favourite – and his past two efforts have again been eye-catchers without a lot going his way.
Behind Born To Win on January 31, Good For You should certainly have finished a bit closer than eighth after getting strung up in the straight for clear running. On Sunday, Good For You was even one place further back behind Snow Slider in ninth and his race was a litany of ill fortune.
Wearing blinkers for the first time, he was slowly away under Howard Cheng Yue-tin, then caught some minor trouble that ensured his spent his race at the tail of the field. The blinkers definitely had him switched on because Good For You was very fired up during the running, then Cheng had trouble more than once getting clear room in the run down the straight.
Mark him down as good for finishing considerably closer again. He looks capable of winning off his current 43 rating but perhaps it will take the drop into Class Five soon before he gets the luck he is looking for.In the third race, another Cheng mount, Brave Knight, put himself on the radar with a better effort after not doing a lot in his first two local starts, this time finishing fifth to Washington Heights down the straight course.
Brave Knight was slowly away but made nice progress mid-race through the field, then was sound to the line even if comfortably held by the first four across the line.
He was dropped a further two points for the effort, taking him to 62 and within sight of Class Four now. That might be when he becomes seriously competitive and, being a son of Elusive City, it might be worth looking for an extra red flag if connections decide to switch him onto the dirt.
