Short-priced favourite California Joy had to hang on for dear life after sweeping to the front approaching the 200m from midfield. It was his third win from 10 starts and he'll likely come on further for this run. Redwood Baby was really eating up the ground from behind midfield. He's crying out for a longer trip. Packing Dragon kept grinding away following a prominent run in a pleasing first run back from a tendon injury. Club Life did have his chance following a box-seat run but is near a bottom. As usual, Winnam was doing his best work late though was short of room until the 300m. Industrialist Way had no excuse following a handy run. He needed the run. Winnie's Honey made some late headway after settling second from the rear from a wide gate. He's still trying to acclimate. Amazing Agility was doing his best work late. Unique Joyous appears to have hit his mark.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (028)-GUANGZHOU HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600Metres

UNIQUE JOYOUS was checked on jumping when crowded for room between DASHING KING and BALAY BALAY which shifted out.

From the outside barriers, AMAZING AGILITY and WINNIE'S HONEY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Passing the 1500 Metres, BALAY BALAY shifted out and bumped DASHING KING.

Approaching the 700 Metres, WINNIE'S HONEY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZINGLY.

WINNAM and AMAZINGLY were held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Passing the 400 Metres, WINNIE'S HONEY was shifted to the inside of AMAZINGLY when that horse drifted out under pressure.

Approaching the 100 Metres, WINNIE'S HONEY, which was closing off well, was shifted out away from the heels of INDUSTRIALIST WAY and then near the 50 Metres shifted out further away from the heels of WINNAM.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on RHODE ASSASSIN at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, RHODE ASSASSIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of DASHING KING and UNIQUE JOYOUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CALIFORNIA JOY and REDWOOD BABY were sent for sampling.

7 September 2016 Happy Valley Racemeeting -Race 8 (18) The Stewards today continued their inquiry into Apprentice K K Chiong's riding of CHARITY JOY.

Evidence was today taken from Trainer C S Shum.

Mr Shum confirmed that the instructions were to ride the horse from behind the speed if possible, however, to remain racing away from the rail as earlier races had indicated to him that horses being positioned away from the rail had been advantaged.

He further stated that he had instructed Apprentice Chiong to shift the horse wider in the Straight to make its finishing run.

Mr Shum also confirmed that he had instructed Apprentice Chiong not to make too much use of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position as it was resuming that night and had shown a tendency in some of its races to prove difficult to settle.

He said, in his opinion, CHARITY JOY had got too far out of its ground in the early stages and that Apprentice Chiong should have ridden the horse in such a manner so as to prevent BLOCKER DEE from being able to shift in in front of that horse near the 1000 Metres.

He further added that he believed the opportunity was available for Apprentice Chiong to ride her mount more aggressively rounding the Home Turn so as to follow the eventual winner BLOCKER DEE when that horse quickened.

Apprentice Chiong was advised that her riding of CHARITY JOY in this race had come under notice, particularly in the early stages of the race.

She was further advised to ensure that she rides her mounts in such a manner so as not to get too far out of their ground and in accordance with instructions, where possible.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Happy Valley Racemeeting on 7 September 2016 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of ORIENTAL FANTASIA, GREAT SPEED, FLYING MONKEY, MISSION POSSIBLE, SPEEDY WALLY, ISLAND FLYER, SUPER FORM, GLORY STAR, VICTORY MARVEL, SHARP HUNTER, HO HO FEEL, HAPPY CONTENDER, HANG'S DECISION, LUCKY PROFIT, BLOCKER DEE and MR BOGART revealed no apparent abnormality.
