Recap by phillip woo

Sparkling Talent came on nicely following a rail's run in midfield to take control 150m out for a first win at his second outing at this level. He'll leave the grade but if things don't pan out in Class Four, he'll be in the cellar grade and competitive. Smart Salute came on nicely from the rear of the field after a sluggish break to grab second. He's hit the line well in two of five starts this term and can get away with a Valley sprint shortly in this grade. Telecom Boom closed off nicely from near the back to fill a placing. It was another positive run on the back of a rallying sixth on the dirt last Wednesday and he doesn't appear far off a winning run at this level. He should get up to 1,400m. Favourite Giddy Giddy isn't anything special in the first place and knocked up as expected after vying for the lead three deep with the pair of Showing Character and Perfect Smart underneath him and Double Master to his outside. He also needs a wet track. Noble Buddies did cop a check 700m out which cost him any chance. Able Talent was a late withdrawal.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (168)-BATTERY PATH HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1000Metres

After leaving the Parade Ring, ABLE TALENT took charge of its rider and made heavy contact with the running rail, resulting in M Chadwick being dislodged.

ABLE TALENT then proceeded to the Start riderless.

Acting on veterinary advice that ABLE TALENT was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, ABLE TALENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

M Chadwick was subsequently examined by the Club's medical officers and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.

SHOWING CHARACTER shifted in at the start and bumped TELECOM BOOM.

DOUBLE MASTER began awkwardly and shifted in towards the hindquarters of GIDDY GIDDY.

Shortly after the start, SMART SALUTE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of PERFECT SMART which shifted out.

Despite being vigorously ridden along in the early stages, KIM GLORY was slow to muster speed.

GIDDY GIDDY lost its left front plate near the 850 Metres.

Making the turn passing the 600 Metres, NOBLE BUDDIES (K Teetan), which for some distance had been ridden along to maintain its position inside the heels of SHOWING CHARACTER, was checked as SHOWING CHARACTER shifted in marginally when racing tight inside GIDDY GIDDY which shifted in after initially racing with its head on the side and wanting to shift away from DOUBLE MASTER and then shifting in further after being brushed by DOUBLE MASTER which shifted in marginally.

K Teetan was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, this incident was entirely avoidable had he have shown more judgement than he did on this occasion given the positioning of NOBLE BUDDIES in relation to horses to his outside.

Near the 450 Metres, PERFECT SMART became unbalanced after being bumped by SHOWING CHARACTER which got its head on the side and lay in when racing tight inside GIDDY GIDDY.

Passing the 150 Metres, SMART SALUTE raced tight outside TELECOM BOOM which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Throughout the race, GIDDY GIDDY and DOUBLE MASTER travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, N Callan reported that PERFECT SMART did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of PERFECT SMART immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT SMART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of GIDDY GIDDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GIDDY GIDDY, SPARKLING TALENT and SMART SALUTE were sent for sampling.
