Recap by phillip woo

Debutant Red Elysees came on strongly after going back from a wide gate to get up in the final few strides to cause a massive upset. He was suited by the pace and it wasn't a strong Class Four but he still has improvement to come and will want a further trip in time. Great Treasure found one too good after sweeping to the lead 150m out following a nice one-off trip behind midfield. He's gone very well in three of four 1,400m outings this term. Penang Hall got shuffled back to have only three behind him rounding the final bend and finished well after a ducking-and-weaving run to just miss second in a return to form following a downgrade. He'll be winning shortly at this level. Winner St Paul's finished off well after a deep run travelling fourth from the rear. He's nothing special but appears from his past two starts to be near a bottom. Specked late, Good Choice Ahead made ground without menacing widest out after trailing the field until the 300m. He's hit the line well in his past two of four starts but appears to want further than the 1,400m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (356)-PITT HANDICAP (Sec1) - Class 4 - 1400Metres

INFINITY ENDEAVOUR was withdrawn on 19.1.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (blood abnormality) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter KWAICHUNG BROTHERS.

Before being allowed to race again, INFINITY ENDEAVOUR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

KWAICHUNG BROTHERS began awkwardly and shortly after the start was crowded for room between WINNER ST PAUL'S and AMAZING MOMENT which shifted out after being bumped by GREAT TREASURE.

GOOD CHOICE AHEAD began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped RED ELYSEES.

After this, GOOD CHOICE AHEAD, together with CATCHMEIFYOUCAN and RED ELYSEES, from wide barriers, were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

DARING HEART began only fairly.

When attempting to improve around AMAZING MOMENT near the 550 Metres, BOLD STITCH became unbalanced when bumped by that horse which shifted to the outside of CONTRIBUTION.

Then rounding the Home Turn, AMAZING MOMENT and BOLD STITCH made further contact and became unbalanced as AMAZING MOMENT attempted to improve into tight running between BOLD STITCH and POLYMER LUCK which was taken out by CONTRIBUTION which in turn was taken out by KWAICHUNG BROTHERS which improved into tight running between CONTRIBUTION and SUNNY ORIENT.

Passing the 400 Metres, CATCHMEIFYOUCAN was steadied and shifted to the outside of DARING HEART after being disappointed for running inside that horse which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of KWAICHUNG BROTHERS.

PENANG HALL had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Passing the 350 Metres, POLYMER LUCK got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride.

Approaching the 250 Metres, DARING HEART was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KWAICHUNG BROTHERS prior to obtaining tight running between that horse and SUNNY ORIENT which was giving ground.

CATCHMEIFYOUCAN was held up for clear running behind DARING HEART at this time.

SUNNY ORIENT subsequently finished tailed out.

The performance of SUNNY ORIENT was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY ORIENT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Passing the 250 Metres, BOLD STITCH shifted in and inconvenienced AMAZING MOMENT.

Over the concluding stages, BOLD STITCH was awkwardly placed inside the heels of PENANG HALL.

Throughout the race, POLYMER LUCK travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, Z Purton said that over the concluding stages AMAZING MOMENT gave ground noticeably and shifted ground, resulting in him easing it down close to the finishing line.

A veterinary inspection of AMAZING MOMENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the performance of CONTRIBUTION, S de Sousa stated that, as instructed, he rode the horse in a forward position.

He said although the race was run at a quick tempo in the early stages, he was reluctant to steady CONTRIBUTION to allow POLYMER LUCK to cross as CONTRIBUTION is a lazy horse and he felt it would have dropped the bit and lost interest in the race.

He said in the Straight CONTRIBUTION gave ground and was disappointing, however, he believed that the horse at this stage of its career is still quite immature.

A veterinary inspection of CONTRIBUTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of SUNNY ORIENT and DARING HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CONTRIBUTION, RED ELYSEES and GREAT TREASURE were sent for sampling.
