Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Resplendent Glory stalked the speed in second and took control 150m out for back-to-back wins this campaign following a stable change. He was a class above the rest and should hold his own in a higher grade off a light weight. Torney closed off well after travelling worse than midfield to snatch second in a blanket finish or the minors. He didn't disgrace in two of three other starts and is naturally coming to hand. Confucius Spirit stayed on well enough for a placing after a prominent run along the fence. He had no excuse and might need to make use of a claimer off a feather weight or wait for a class drop to break through. The Full Bloom ran on steadily following a midfield run to just miss the placings. He pops up for a minor cheque on occasions but is limited. Plunged late, Super Duke couldn't turn it up another gear after tracking the speed one off in third. It was an improved effort on his past four following a return to blinkers and switch to the Valley but is likely to need a bit more education. My Gift closed off well from last in a better effort following a downgrade. He needs a longer trip. Hot Hot Pepper was no good when ridden quietly instead of bowling along out front or near the speed.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (637)-LANCASHIRE HANDICAP (Sec2) - Class 4 - 1200Metres

WINNING VIBE shifted out at the start and hampered MY GIFT and WHISTLE UP.

After this, from the outside barriers, MY GIFT and WHISTLE UP were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

TORNEY shifted out at the start and bumped THE FULL BLOOM.

MASTER STEED was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Making the turn near the 1050 Metres, MASTER STEED (Z Purton) got its head up when being eased away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM.

Z Purton stated that after this MASTER STEED proved very difficult to settle and for some distance in the middle stages again got its head up when having to be checked away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM.

He added that, in particular, near the 600 Metres he had to severely check MASTER STEED away from the heels of THE FULL BLOOM as the horse was not responding to his efforts to have it settle better.

He said because of the manner in which MASTER STEED over-raced during the event, the horse was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of MASTER STEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Passing the 900 Metres, FINE WITH ME became unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of TORNEY.

Approaching the 600 Metres, WHISTLE UP was awkwardly placed behind MASTER STEED.

Rounding the Home Turn, HOT HOT PEPPER raced tight between WHISTLE UP and WINNING VIBE.

Passing the 200 Metres, FINE WITH ME and MY GIFT raced tight as MY GIFT was shifted to the outside of MASTER STEED to obtain clear running.

Approaching the 50 Metres, SUPER DUKE was brushed by CONFUCIUS SPIRIT which shifted out after racing tight outside TORNEY which improved into tight running between CONFUCIUS SPIRIT and LYRIC ACE.

Throughout the race, WINNING VIBE travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, Mr P O'Sullivan, the trainer of HOT HOT PEPPER, stated that the horse was having its 17th race start tonight and had been very disappointing in its failure to finish off a number of its previous races when ridden in a forward position.

He said he therefore instructed N Callan, from a wide barrier, to steady HOT HOT PEPPER in the early stages and ride it with more patience in the hope that it would finish off the race with more purpose.

He said he anticipated the race would be run at a more genuine tempo than it was, however, even providing for this, HOT HOT PEPPER was again disappointing in the manner in which it did not close off the race.

He added due to the manner in which HOT HOP PEPPER performed tonight, if the circumstances allow, he would revert to the horse's prior racing pattern to being ridden in a more forward position.

A veterinary inspection of HOT HOT PEPPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

RESPLENDENT GLORY and TORNEY were sent for sampling.
