The honest Magnetism took the short route home travelling midfield to win going away 150m out. He has put the writing on the wall in his opening two starts so a victory was no surprise. Mister Monte came on well for second following a handy run. He's gotten the hang of things in his past three starts and should get 1,800m as well. Bank On Red finished nicely down the outside after travelling third from the rear to get up for a placing to continue his purple patch of form over this Valley trip. Plunged late Flying Quest just failed to get up for a placing after sitting last from gate 12. He requires a stronger rider. Jade Fortune got going late near the inside after travelling second from the rear. He's naturally returning to form. Favourite Relentless Me punctured after enjoying an uncontested lead. He's still learning and better at Sha Tin.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (216) - STIRLING HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

GO BEAUTY GO began only fairly and then was crowded for room on jumping between FULL GLAMOUR and GO GO WIN which shifted out.

BANK ON RED shifted out at the start and bumped MARQULA.

JADE FORTUNE and SMART BOY bumped at the start, resulting in SMART BOY shifting out and making contact with FLYING QUEST which was being steadied from the outside barrier to shift across behind runners.

From wide barriers, JADE FORTUNE and SMART BOY were then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

A short distance after the start, CELESTIAL NOVA got its head on the side, shifted out and bumped BANK ON RED.

After this, BANK ON RED was hard ridden, however, failed to muster speed.

Making the turn after the 1100 Metres, FULL GLAMOUR lay in and bumped MAGNETISM.

After the 1000 Metres, CELESTIAL NOVA was taken wider by FULL GLAMOUR which shifted out.

Passing the 450 Metres, MISTER MONTE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MARQULA when racing tight between that horse which lay in and GO BEAUTY GO which shifted out marginally away from the heels of RELENTLESS ME.

Approaching the 200 Metres, RELENTLESS ME shifted out and brushed GO BEAUTY GO.

After this, GO BEAUTY GO (T Berry) shifted out and passing the 150 Metres made heavy contact with MISTER MONTE which shifted in marginally, causing both horses to become badly unbalanced.

T Berry was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that MISTER MONTE had shifted in slightly and contributed to this incident, nonetheless he must make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Passing the 200 Metres, JADE FORTUNE was shifted in away from the heels of RELENTLESS ME.

Near the 50 Metres, GO GO WIN was momentarily eased away from the heels of MISTER MONTE which shifted out.

Throughout the race, GO GO WIN travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RELENTLESS ME, J Moreira stated that it was hoped that the horse would be able to obtain cover behind the leaders if possible and for this reason he steadied his mount after obtaining a forward position in the hope that MARQULA would improve its position forward of RELENTLESS ME so as to provide his mount with cover.

He said MARQULA shifted in to race outside RELENTLESS ME near the 1300 Metres, however, did not continue on into the lead and the rider of that horse was content to remain racing to the outside of RELENTLESS ME.

He said irrespective of this, RELENTLESS ME travelled very well in the lead and at no stage was any pressure placed on the horse.

He said because of this he anticipated that RELENTLESS ME would respond strongly to his riding when placed under pressure.

He added he did not have to commence to ride RELENTLESS ME along until rounding the Home Turn, however, when placed under full pressure, RELENTLESS ME did not quicken as he anticipated it would and then came under heavy pressure prior to the 200 Metres.

He said RELENTLESS ME was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race and he was not able to offer any excuse for the horse's performance.

A veterinary inspection of RELENTLESS ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

RELENTLESS ME, MAGNETISM and MISTER MONTE were sent for sampling.
