Hong Kong are in the box seat to take out the Asia Rugby Sevens Series after annihilating Sri Lanka 36-0 in the final of the South Korea leg on Sunday.
After a tough opening day, Hong Kong were simply dominant through the knockout stage, with Lee Jones capping an exceptional tournament with two tries in the decider.
Rowan Varty, Ryan Meacheam, Chris Maize and Cado Lee Ka-to also scored, while Ben Rimene was both creative and accurate in front of the sticks.
Earlier, Hong Kong were sublime in their semi-final against China, running in five tries to post an emphatic 29-0 win against a side that had impressed on day one.
A yellow card to China late in first half allowed Hong Kong to open up a handy 17-0 half-time lead, with Alex McQueen and Michael Coverdale both scoring tries while their opponents were a man down.
Captain Max Woodward and Maize crossed in the second half to ensure their side the easiest of victories.
Hong Kong’s women suffered an early exit for the second tournament running, finding themselves on the end of a heavy semi-final defeat to eventual champions China.
Trailing 26-0 at half-time, Hong Kong eventually went down 40-5 with Sham Wai-sum their only try scorer.
They finished the tournament on a more positive note, securing third place overall with a 27-12 win over Thailand on the back of the three tries to Chong Ka-yan.
