Former Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero's four-goal masterclass inspired Sydney FC to a record 7-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix in the A-League yesterday. After the euphoria of Pep Guardiola's appointment as head coach for next season, Bayern Munich returned to Bundesliga action yesterday with a 2-0 win at home to bottom side Greuther Fuerth. "We must convince the authorities," said Interpol secretary-general, Ronald Noble. "When a prosecutor tells me, 'I have more important things to do - prostitution, drugs, gun-running. Everton boss David Moyes, the third longest-serving English Premier League manager, expressed astonishment yesterday at the sacking of Nigel Adkins by Southampton. "I'm very surprised. I was talking to my staff during the week and complimenting how well Nigel Adkins had done," said Moyes, who will now pit his wits against Saints' new manager, Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, tomorrow. "It was always going to be difficult after two promotions," said Moyes. "He'd just got himself out of the bottom three and moved up. I don't think there would have been many people looking at him to be sacked." AFP
