Frank Lampard became Chelsea's outright record goalscorer by netting twice as the Blues came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at Aston Villa in the English Premier League yesterday.

England international Lampard struck in the 61st minute at Villa Park when he collected a pass from Eden Hazard, and let fly from some 15 yards to equal former Chelsea striker Bobby Tambling's club record of 202 goals

His goal drew the visitors level at 1-1 after both sides had had a man sent-off in Ramires (Chelsea) and Christian Benteke, who opened the scoring for Villa.

Lampard then added a second two minutes from time when he played a one-two with Hazard before side-footing in his 203rd goal for Chelsea to spark a minor pitch invasion by some elated Blues fans.

Victory left third-placed Chelsea five points clear of Arsenal and six clear of Tottenham Hotspur and virtually assured of prevailing in the battle between the London trio for a place in next season's Champions League.

"It means everything, it's amazing," Lampard, 34, said. "The support I've had from teammates, you saw that at the end and I'm thankful to every one of them because they're the ones that put it on a plate for me sometimes. And the fans, they've been with me for a long time and were probably frustrated alongside me not getting there so I'm just delighted.

"I was pleased to level it but I didn't want to overcook that celebration out of respect [for Tambling]. But to then go and break it, I was delighted.

"I lost my mum a few years ago and she was my biggest supporter so it's for her."

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez added: "It is a fantastic achievement for him."
