Ex-BBC Director General Greg Dyke confirmed as new FA chairman

The Football Association announced on Thursday that Greg Dyke’s appointment as its new independent chairman has been formally ratified by the governing body’s council.

Former BBC Director General Dyke, 65, is scheduled to take over from David Bernstein on July 13.

Bernstein is stepping down from the role after two and a half years because he has reached the maximum age limit of 70.

“I’m flattered that the FA council has unanimously supported my appointment as chairman of the FA and I am looking forward to taking up the role in July,” said Dyke.

“I will be outlining my priorities for the future of the FA in due course.”
