Fabregas: ‘I want to stay at Barcelona’

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas said on Thursday he wants to stay at the Catalan club, dealing a major blow to Manchester United’s hopes of signing the former Arsenal star.

United has had its attempts to sign Fabregas rejected by Barcelona, although the Premier League champion was reportedly considering trying again.

“It is a huge, huge dream, that I have had since I was a kid, to succeed at Barcelona and nothing has changed or altered at any moment,” Fabregas said. “Things have been invented but I have always been very calm.

“I haven’t talked to anyone. I have a completely clean conscience. I haven’t done anything bad. And I’m very, very happy at Barcelona.”

Fabregas claimed he hasn’t talked to any club since leaving Arsenal in 2011 for a return to his boyhood club.

“It’s been my dream since I was very small,” he said. “I left a club which gave me so much and it cost me a lot to return and I haven’t changed my mind. I’ve never had any doubts. I’ve always been very calm.

“It’s flattering when such an important club makes two offers for you but I never spoke to anyone from United. Everyone here told me to stay. There were never any doubts, not on the club’s part and not on mine. I’ve felt wanted here at every moment.”
