Relief for Hong Kong FA as they escape with Fifa fine for fans booing China national anthem
But governing body pleads with supporters not to repeat behaviour
The Hong Kong Football Association breathed a sigh of relief after escaping with a fine from Fifa after fans booed China's national anthem again.
The FA had feared they could be docked points or even thrown out of their World Cup qualifying group after the anthem was booed despite repeated warnings, and a cardboard juice box thrown at a Qatar player in last month's World Cup qualifier.
But they pleaded - again - with supporters not to repeat the booing.
"Fifa has warned the HKFA that any further infringements will lead to more severe sanctions," said a statement from the HKFA.
"The HKFA would like to request Hong Kong fans to refrain from such action at all future matches so to avoid future sanctions."

Hong Kong's fans have repeatedly booed the March of the Volunteers when it is played before national games as a localist protest, angering many in mainland China.
Hong Kong's next home game is a hotly anticipated 'derby' against China in November, when the anthem issue is sure to again be in the spotlight.
