Pochettino ‘is not going anywhere’, declares Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy in Hong Kong

Good news for Spurs fans as club chairman says in-demand manager is set to remain with the club

There was a double dose of good news for Tottenham Hotspur fans in Hong Kong on Thursday when, alongside the news that the London club were set to visit the region on a more regular basis in future, club chairman Daniel Levy said manager Mauricio Pochettino will remain at the club with Spanish giants Barcelona rumoured to be circling the Argentine.

Pochettino has won plenty of plaudits during his three years at the North London club having lead them to third and second place in the last two seasons, Tottenham’s best ever Premier League finishes. But the chairman was quick to shoot down rumours that the 45-year-old would be leaving the club to join the 24-time Spanish champions.

“Mauricio is sitting right in front of us here,” said Levy. “I’m sure he’s not going anywhere. He loves us.”

Levy delivered the message during a media conference in Hong Kong, attended by Pochettino and members of his staff, where the club announced an extension to their global principal partnership deal with city-based insurance company AIA, which will run until the end of the 2021-22 season.

Under the terms of the new tie-up, Spurs’ first team will return to Asia “on a number of occasions” in the coming seasons for exhibition matches – like the one they will play against Hong Kong champions Kitchee at Hong Kong Stadium on Friday night.

In addition, two as yet unnamed members of the club’s elite coaching staff will be based permanently in Asia helping to develop local talent.

Tottenham have brought a near full-strength side to Hong Kong for the Kitchee friendly.

On Wednesday, a selection of the club’s star players attended coaching clinics in city schools.
