Neymar would find it easier to win Ballon d’Or at Real Madrid, says president Fiorentino Perez
Cristiano Ronaldo wins record-equalling fifth individual crown but all eyes are on who will break up the duopoly he shares with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi
After watching Cristiano Ronaldo lift a record-equalling fifth Ballon d’Or in Paris, Real Madrid president Fiorentino Perez told Spanish radio Neymar would have a better a chance of lifting the individual crown if he moved to Madrid.
Speaking to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, Perez said: “Being at Madrid would make it easier for Neymar to win it. Madrid is a club that gives big players what they need.”
Perez also said “everyone knew that I wanted to sign him,” referring to the Brazil international that swapped Barcelona for Paris St-Germain in the summer, in a move believed to be driven by his desire to win the Ballon d’Or.
Neymar came third in this year’s Ballon d’Or behind Ronaldo and his former teammate – and the other five-time winner – Lionel Messi.
The last 10 titles have been shared by Messi and Ronaldo but a World Cup next summer means the Argentine and Portuguese may find their unbroken run under threat.
