More than half of Canadians are 'gamers'
But far less would describe themselves that way, according to survey
Samsung might be having problems with its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone but even those fire-prone devices are unlikely to sway Canadians’ gaming habits.
Forty-one per cent of Canadians say their mobile devices are their preferred method of playing video games, according to a new survey from the Entertainment Software Association of Canada.
That’s up from just 6 per cent in 2012.
The ESAC survey also revealed 52 per cent of respondents have a played a video game at least once in the last four weeks.
That’s frequent enough to be labelled a “gamer”, according to the threshold by which ESAC measures gameplay.
Despite more than half of Canadians admitting they’ve played video games at least once in the last month, just 38 per cent of respondents said they’d describe themselves as “gamers.”
The survey also found women are getting into gaming more than ever before, with female gamers playing 9 per cent more on a daily basis on their mobile devices than their male counterparts.
