Investment banker makes Eminem video parody of annual state-of-the-internet presentation

Terence Kawaja says video is a tribute to the 'awesomeness' of American venture capitalist Mary Meeker's presentation, which this year had more than 200 slides

Each year, Mary Meeker, of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, releases an epic presentation about the state of the web.

This year's presentation clocked in at more than 200 slides and covers search is changing, the impact of messaging apps, and the future of transportation.

In tribute, investment banker Terence Kawaja, the CEO of LUMA Partners, released a parody video on Wednesday, set to "Lose Yourself" by Eminem.

Kawaja is well-known for his business-related internet memes and comedy videos — his last toasted ad tech company Millennial Media's acquisition of Nexage and was titled "Spend the Dough," set to "Let it Go," from Disney's "Frozen."

His latest comedy rap touches upon Meeker's actual presentation of the slide deck itself, at Recode's Code Conference, Snapchat, Yahoo, Twitter, Elon Musk, and mobile.

Kawaja told us: "This was so so hard to do — dual simultaneous asynchronous asymmetrical rhyme schemes. I have a new found respect for rap, especially Eminem!"

Here are the full lyrics:

Look, if you had, one shot or one opportunity
To convey Mark Meeker’s internet trends deck to millennials
Would you capture it, or just let it slip?
Yo

Her voice is steady, well dressed, she is ready
There’s charts and graphs already, the deck’s heady
She’s confident, and on the surface she looks calm and ready to drop slides
But she keeps on forgetting the deck she packed
The whole crowd is so rapt
She shows a new slide, but folks can’t adapt
She shows a new slide, but folks can’t adapt
She’s talking fast, everybody’s eyes are glassed
The deck is vast, time’s ticking past!
Snap’s the new reality, it’s verticality
Oh there goes Evan, he sold
Some more shares, despite marks at Fidelity, no
It’s not Facebook, he knows the only route to the dough
Is getting ad dollar flows
It’s not rockets on drones
Or self-driving round cones
Then she goes back to the mobile phone, that’s when it’s
Back to Apple again, yo
This whole rhapsody
She better capture this moment and hope it don’t pass her

You otta schmooze yourself at the conference, the moment
You own it, you better never miss a Code (Code)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to know
This opportunity comes at Terranea
You otta schmooze yourself at the conference, the moment
You own it, you better never miss a Code (Code)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to know
This opportunity comes at Terranea

Her heart is racing, cause this talk they are taping
This room is hers for the taking
It’s ka-ching, as we move toward a new world order
Analog’s days are over, with smart mobile phones getting larger
The phone’s a non-starter without a charger
But it’s getting harder, to launch a new startup
Boast to toast show’s it’s mostly about product
Yahoo sold, the news is old
Even Jack knows the Street can get chronic
Two CEOs in one person’s chaotic
But hold your nose ‘cause here is what’s ironic
Elon has three and his stock’s super sonic
That just means that he has shown the pros
He chose roles like big rockets
And as at the Hyperloop doze and arose
I suppose it’s not modest but the beat goes on
Da da dum da dum da da da da

You otta schmooze yourself at the conference, the moment
You own it, you better never miss a Code (Code)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to know
This opportunity comes at Terranea
You otta schmooze yourself at the conference, the moment
You own it, you better never miss a Code (Code)
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to know
This opportunity comes at Terranea

You can attend every year if you want to, man
