Police keep tabs on blaze site owner

Police in Urumqi, Xinjiang, have frozen the assets and imposed strict limits on the movements of the owner of two inner-city buildings ravaged by a 33-hour blaze this week.

Qian Jinnai, chairman of the 1.6 billion yuan Xinjiang Doowin Industrial and Commercial Group, has been confined to the city.

3 firemen killed in Urumqi building blaze

Three firefighters have been killed in an inferno that raged for nearly 22 hours through a shop and office building and a neighbouring hotel in Urumqi , the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region .

There were no reports of other casualties and the blaze was under control by 6pm yesterday.
