Memories of Sichuan earthquake drill hard into township school

A class of third-year students at a middle school in Yingxiu township in Sichuan province were reviewing their exam papers yesterday when an ear-piercing alarm sounded across the campus.

Chen Huaqin placed a yellow chrysanthemum at the tomb of her only son Zhu Qiang, who died age 19 in the Sichuan earthquake, and started to burn money. She was among hundreds of mourners who gathered yesterday in Yingxiu, the epicentre of the 8.0-magnitude quake that struck on May 12, 2008.
