Four entrances to the busy Central MTR station were closed yesterday for 45 minutes after a man clashed with passengers and railway staff, causing officers from bomb disposal and counter-terror units to be called.

New rail lines to help ease crowding

New railways on the drawing board are likely to focus on relieving congestion at some interchange stations, such as Admiralty and North Point, transport officials say.

At least three projects have been lined up from 2020. The plans would be launched for public consultation in December, the Transport and Housing Bureau said yesterday.

Passengers left sweating at outdoor MTR stations and on old buses

Getting around Hong Kong in the heat of the summer can be a sweaty business at the best of times.

But for those using MTR stations or buses with no air conditioning, matters are much more extreme.

At 5pm yesterday, temperatures at the roadside registered 29 degrees Celsius, but on the concourse at Chai Wan MTR station, the thermometer hit 33 degrees.
