Aeon reports 12pc rise in profit

Consumer finance firm Aeon Credit Service (Asia) posted a 12 per cent year-on-year rise in net profit for the nine months to November 20, thanks to higher income from insurance sales, lower loan losses and gain on investments disposal.

Credit card fraud sparks review of procedures

A credit card company is reviewing how it verifies applications after police said a syndicate cheated it out of HK$700,000 by using bogus documents to get cards.

The review comes after a man was arrested in connection with the fraud against Aeon Credit Service (Asia).

Police said the cards had been used to buy goods and make cash withdrawals.

Earnings get lift as cardholders say Hello Kitty

Increasing numbers of cardholders helped Aeon Credit Service (Asia), famous for its Hello Kitty MasterCards, boost net profit by 23 per cent to HK$180 million in the year to February 20.

The number of cardholders was up by 110,000 to 615,000 with total revenue for the year lifting by 10.3 per cent to HK$825.1 million.

Offshoot of Aeon takes debt of $723m

Aeon Credit Service (Asia) has raised $723 million in the form of cash-and-certificates by securitising about 30 per cent of its credit card receivables.

Aeon Funding Corp, a special purpose company set up in the Cayman Islands, bought the receivables from Aeon Credit under a purchase agreement made on Friday.

Aeon drive targets US$3m towards IT-related facilities

Aeon Credit Service Asia plans to invest US$3 million this year in information-technology (IT) geared processing facilities and product-delivery channels to reduce costs and bolster revenue.

Managing director Kazuhide Kamitani said that the company hoped to achieve a healthier balance in its revenue sources by diverting more of its resources into these areas.
