The crew of an Air France plane that was rerouted via Damascus this week asked passengers how much cash they could stump up after Syrian authorities refused credit card payment to refuel the aircraft, the French airline said.

Air France strike disrupts fans' World Cup itineraries

Hundreds of soccer fans bound for the World Cup in Paris have had their flights disrupted by the Air France pilots' strike.

Six fully booked flights between Hong Kong and France had been cancelled, affecting 1,500 passengers, Air France's China marketing manager Sarah Sanders said.

The flight due to leave for Paris tomorrow night should be the final cancellation.

Air France links Shanghai

Air France has begun direct flights between Paris and Shanghai, the Liberation Daily reported yesterday. The first flight arrived on Tuesday carrying 50 footballs to commemorate this year's World Cup in France. The footballs would be given to local youth clubs and one would be for the local professional team, the newspaper said.

French plans for Taipei

AIR Charter, a subsidiary of the Air France Group, will begin weekly cargo flights to Taipei from Paris on Saturday, says an Air France official.

Last month representatives of Taiwan and France signed an agreement establishing air links between the two countries, which have significant economic ties but no diplomatic relations.
