Cathay sets sights on Shanghai

Cathay Pacific Airways hopes to end its 14-year absence from the lucrative Hong Kong-Shanghai market early next year, when it launches the all-cargo flights it was allocated this month.

Hong Kong's government awarded Cathay 12 of the 15 weekly cargo flights it won in the latest Sino-Hong Kong air-services agreement.

A training captain and the pilot he was supervising have been grounded after a newly delivered Air Hong Kong freighter aircraft spun off the runway during takeoff from Bangkok.

New livery for HK delivery

The first of Air Hongkong's fleet of six freighters rolled off the Airbus production line in Toulouse, France, last week sporting a new livery which displays the logo of its minority partner, DHL. The airline will take delivery of the first A300-600F on September 10 and will receive one plane a month until March next year.

Long delay

On March 25, Cathay Pacific Flight CX701 was scheduled to depart from Hong Kong to Bangkok at 3.50pm.

At around 3.55pm all passengers were on board. At around 4pm, the captain announced that due to the heavy downpour in Hong Kong earlier in the day, CX701 was at number 30 in the queue to take off and departure would be delayed by 1.5 hours.

Carrier responds to strong demand

All-freight carrier Air Hong Kong (AHK) will add another call to its bi-weekly service between Osaka and Hong Kong from next week.

Chief operating officer Kenny Tang said the service was being launched in response to strong demand on the route.
