High-rise trash exposes cover-up battle

Yeuchhh. Robin Arrowsmith looked out the window of his flat and saw that his upstairs neighbours had thrown rubbish out of their windows. The stuff had fallen on to the canopy and spilled on to the balcony of the apartment in Arbuthnot Road, Central.

Good thing the canopy was there. It apparently had been built by the landlord to stop the muck landing directly on his head.

Three charged in wake of collapse

THREE people are to be prosecuted following the Aberdeen canopy collapse last August which killed an 80-year-old newspaper vendor and injured 12 others.

However, illegal alterations being made by the three at the time of the collapse are not blamed for the tragedy, whose cause dates from construction.

Inquest told how worker warned victim

A 76-YEAR-OLD woman looking after a newspaper stand was warned the canopy above her might collapse moments before it crashed down and killed her, an inquest heard yesterday.

Mo Yee was killed and 12 people were injured when the structure fell into the street.

Final report sparks doubts over safety of balconies

DOUBTS about the safety of thousands of balconies have been voiced following the publication yesterday of the final report into the Aberdeen canopy collapse.

An 80-year-old woman died and 12 people were injured when a reinforced concrete canopy outside a first-floor seafood restaurant crashed to the ground on August 1.
