A little research will reveal a wealth of fun holiday activities

The summer holidays are starting to look endless! We are staying in Hong Kong and don't have much money to spare. Can you recommend some activities for us to do as a family?

Planes, trains and lack of automobiles

The first sign of trouble came after we boarded our flight at Tokyo's Narita Airport, expecting to take off for Hong Kong at 6.20pm.

The captain announced we would be significantly late due to the weather in Hong Kong.

MTR already offers many concessions

We would like to thank Brittany Wong for her letter ('Split cost of flat-fare scheme', June 6), regarding the splitting of costs between taxpayers and transport operators of the flat-fare scheme.

Concessions no balm for fare rise, MTR told

A HK$670 million package of concessions will do little to ease the burden of MTR fare rises on travellers, critics say.

Express line to blame for fare increase

I agree with your correspondents who have objected to the MTR Corporation's proposed fare increase.

Any increase in fares has a major effect on Hongkongers having to deal with inflation.

Even though the MTR faces higher operating costs, it should not pass those costs on to passengers.

Why the MTR is not taking the people for a ride

When the MTR increases fares, it has a major effect on the population of Hong Kong. In many cases, salary rises have not matched the increases in the rate of inflation, and so the fare hike rubs salt in the wounds ...

I understand the MTR faces higher operating costs and wants to maintain profits, but it should not pass those costs onto passengers.

Gays deserve to have legal protection

I couldn't agree more with your editorial on gay rights in Hong Kong ('Gays miss out on discrimination law', November 10). The government loves to boast that Hong Kong is 'Asia's world city', but there is nothing world-class when it comes to the treatment of its gay citizens.

MTR Corporation will soon put new mainland-made trains into service on the Kwun Tong line.

The company has paid HK$1.1 billion for 10 trains from the Changchun Railway Vehicles Company. Four have arrived in Hong Kong and are undergoing tests, while the rest will arrive next year.
