Former Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is being lined up as the next general manager of Ajax, the club announced on Friday.

A statement on the Dutch champions’s website read: “Ajax can confirm the clubs are in negotiations with Edwin van der Sar over a management job ... but these negotiations have not yet concluded.”

Barcelona: Spanish soccer giants Barcelona announced yesterday that they have abandoned their long-standing bid to sign Dutch internationals Frank and Ronald de Boer from Ajax.

Barcelona withdrew their interest after they failed to sign the twins ahead of Thursday night's deadline for players to be eligible for the European Champions' League.

CAN anyone out there find a supply of green safety helmets? Democratic Party chief Martin Lee Chu-ming's been forced to drop the idea of getting a hard hat in his party's colour and buy one in white instead.

Safety inquiry for Ajax firms

GOVERNMENT safety experts are to re-investigate two companies related to Ajax Engineers and Surveyors (AES) to see whether they meet stringent new lift regulations.

The firms, Ajax and Partners (A&P) and Ajax Technical Services (ATS), were added to Works Branch lists of selected contractors in January, just weeks after AES voluntarily asked to be taken off the same lists.
