Lanvin celebrates first mainland fashion show

Hong Kong's A-listers and party regulars arrived in Beijing on Thursday for French fashion house Lanvin's fashion presentation and after-party.

Celebrating creative director Alber Elbaz's 10 years with the brand, the Paris-based designer made a personal appearance at the stellar soiree in China's capital, which also marked Lanvin's maiden fashion show on the mainland.

How did it get started?

Jeanne Lanvin was born in 1867. She became an apprentice milliner in Paris at the age of 16, before training as a dressmaker and setting up her own millinery store. As well as hats, Lanvin made blouses, dresses, men's suits and children's clothes.

Chain gang

Having worked with Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Parisian designer Ligia Dias has stepped out on her own and created a collection of jewellery. Inspired by the work of Bauhaus artist Anni Albers, Dias has made colourful necklaces using industrial materials contrasted with luxurious items. Look for satin ribbons, heavy chains, Swarovski-encrusted brass plates, pearls and rope.
