Viva la evolution

Alexander Wang has flown into town for just 24 hours before heading back to New York to work on his resort collection. His short stay includes back-to-back press calls before hosting a late-night party to mark the opening of his first Hong Kong store, at Harbour City. Such a packed schedule would exhaust most people, but Wang seems to be having the time of his life.

To say that Asian-American designers are having a fashion moment is an understatement. Over the past five years, names such as Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Derek Lam have been taking American fashion by storm with their clean and modern silhouettes.

Sew far, so good

Dressed in a rumpled plaid shirt, skinny black jeans and chunky biker boots, Alexander Wang looks more like a downtown Manhattan child than a successful designer doing interviews at Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong.

'I'm 23,' says the fresh-faced Wang. It's remarkable when you consider he's already a favourite of many fashion editors and celebrities.

Where? Previously located in San Francisco's Russian Hill, Dylan recently relocated to the city's affluent Marina District. This neighbourhood was once home to the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which was staged to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal and the city's comeback after the 1906 earthquake. The area also houses the historical Palace of Fine Arts.
