Acid attack on Tai Po cyclist

An acid attacker is being hunted by police after a cyclist was injured in Tai Po yesterday. The rider, 46, was attacked by a man thought to be in his 30s at about 2.15pm. Police said the victim was on his way home at the time. He sought help from a security guard, 70, who called police, and the victim was treated for head and hand wounds at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

Man drowns during morning swim

A 56-year-old man drowned while swimming in Tai Po yesterday morning. The man disappeared after crying for help at about 8am at Green Cove beach where he had been swimming with his 50-year-old wife. Divers found the man 100 metres out to sea two hours later. He was airlifted to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, where he was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Ambulance, taxi in crash

Five people, including three paramedics, were injured in a collision between an ambulance and taxi at the junction of Tai Po Tai Wo Road and Kai Wo Road in Tai Po shortly before 12.30am yesterday. The four men and one woman, aged from 24 to 59, were treated for minor injuries at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

Disabled boy abandoned in cardboard box

A disabled boy found abandoned in a cardboard box in the restricted border area of Sha Tau Kok on Sunday was probably smuggled in from the mainland so he would be better cared for, police said yesterday.

The boy, thought to be aged four to six, could not speak or walk, according to a police officer.

Abandoned father forgives his son

A frail 75-year-old Hong Kong man, who claims he was abandoned by his son in Guangzhou without cash or identity papers, says he forgives his son and wants to see him again.

Tse Kam-wo had been taken to Guangzhou by his eldest son to have surgery for cataracts in both eyes.

He ended up alone and with two broken legs.

Driver injured in four-vehicle crash

One driver was injured in a four-vehicle pile-up on the Tolo Highway near Kwong Fuk Estate. A medium-sized van rear-ended a car, which hit a small van that was then hit by a taxi from behind. All vehicles were heading towards Kowloon when the accident occurred at 1.40pm. The cabbie, 47, was treated at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

Jobless man accused of beating family

Police are holding a jobless man on suspicion of beating his wife and two daughters in Tai Po early yesterday. The girls are aged eight months and two years. The beating allegedly happened after the drunk man, 28, had a row with his wife, 21, at their home in Ting Kok Road at about 5am. The woman took her children to Tai Po police station.
