Earlier this year, British baritone Thomas Allen took part in a fundraising show with BBC foreign correspondent Kate Adie on the Farne Islands, off Britain's Northumberland coast. He and Adie were born there, and the event was to raise money for a local redevelopment programme.

Characters united by differences

The writer Elizabeth Taylor creates her characters very sharply in her short story The Blush. In the two opening paragraphs, she quickly establishes the differences between the characters of the two women in her story. She also establishes the differences in class between the two women, which is quite a hard concept for readers who are not native to England to grasp.

Teenager so courageous

I AM pleased to see that Allen Palitz, who tragically died last month, will receive a commendation.

He showed great courage on May 8, during the Baguio Villa landslide. Allen and his brother helped to carry children out of the damaged building and then assisted in evacuating neighbouring blocks.
