First choice for some pupils

ABOUT half of 30,000 pupils starting Primary One in September were assigned the school of their first choice yesterday.

But up to 35 per cent will be sent to schools of their first three choices and outside their geographic areas. An Education Department spokesman said the allotment system was fair but admitted some parents might opt for private schools.

China Star allotments accepted

China Star Entertainment said it had received acceptances of provisional allotments amounting to 75.7 million rights shares. The company also received applications for 6.49 million excess rights shares, which it said would be allotted in full. The aggregate amounted to approximately 43 per cent of the entire rights issue of 191.33 million right shares.

NPH shop deal valued at $29m

NPH International Holdings has entered into an agreement to acquire shop spaces at Marina Lodge and a residential flat and car park in Bayshore Apartments for $29 million. The transaction will be satisfied by the issue of an allotment of 82 million new shares representing 19.95 per cent of the company's existing share capital and 16.6 per cent of the enlarged share capital.

Peregrine lifts issue size

PEREGRINE Investments Holdings is raising the issue size of its 4.5 per cent convertible guaranteed bonds due 2000 from US$175 million to US$200 million.

The joint Morgan Stanley International and Peregrine Capital lead-managed issue was announced late last night with a $30 million cover for over-allotments.

YOSHIYA International announced yesterday it has entered into a conditional agreement with Razmark to purchase the entire issued share capital of Southsino Development for $85 million.
