Purton's advice pays off as under-fire Ng avoids the stewards on his comeback

Alvin Ng Ka-chun was thrilled to punch a winner home on his return, but the under-fire apprentice simply considered it a success not to incur the wrath of stewards.

The 22-year-old had just served an eight-meeting ban, part of a staggering 22 days spent on the sidelines this term for careless-riding charges.

Purton to give Ng a helping hand

Zac Purton has agreed to help out the Jockey Club and act as a mentor for troubled apprentice Alvin Ng Ka-chun.

Ng has racked up 22 days' worth of careless riding suspensions in seven episodes this term, the latest on May 19 when stewards were forced to hand him two four-day bans at the same meeting for separate races.
