Hair-raising talent

Dressed in red velvet and grey wigs, 250 children are led through works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at Maritime Square in Tsing Yi yesterday to celebrate the composer's 250th birthday. Among those attending were Austrian consul-general Maria Moya-Gotsch and representatives of the Austrian government.

Mozart maestros

Opera Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta joined forces last month to celebrate Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 250th birthday in style.

Music lovers gathered at the Cultural Centre to hear Mozart's Requiem and favourite arias. Yip Wing-sze conducted the Sinfonietta and local singers also joined in the celebrations.

IF this evening's big films prove one thing it is that what is excellent on the big screen is often only average when compacted for the small screen. Amadeus (Pearl, 9.30 pm) and 2001: A Space Odyssey (World, 9.30 pm) are two of the finest cinema productions of Hollywood's modern era, but both lose much of their power, scope and vision when forced through a small glass tube into a living room.
