Enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to amateur dramatics should be applauded in a work-obsessed city, and the Hong Kong Players have been forged into a talented collective in recent years.

But keenness and theatrical aspirations alone weren't enough to save Ten3.

What qualifications do you need?

You can study how to write plays at The Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts, but the most important thing is that your work is well-received and popular. We are in the field of performing arts, and a degree is helpful only if you want to apply for a teaching job or a government post.

What sort of person does the job suit?

Excellent amateur performance

After reading the critical review by Stephen McCarty (South China Morning Post, May 10) of the Hong Kong Players' production of Romeo and Juliet, I attended a performance expecting little.
