Amex sees 20pc rise in cards

American Express is confident it will grow its Hong Kong card base at double the industry average or about 20 per cent a year, according to Koh Chin-yong, the card issuer's general manager for Greater China.

Sustained high demand for cards will come from the wealth effect delivered by the buoyant stock market.

Amex gives credit where it is due

FEW PEOPLE ARE aware that American Express has been in Hong Kong since 1916, when it began operations as a travel and banking office. Of course, times have changed and, while the company is better known nowadays for one of the things that Hong Kong loves best - the credit card - it maintains a strong presence and plans to expand in traditional areas.

Message to Amex

LIKE many of your readers I was shocked both by American Express's television campaign featuring the selling of shark's fin soup, and by American Express's response in these columns.

Being 'an active corporate citizen' and giving money to green groups does not make legitimate an advert promoting a diabolical and cruel practice.
