Censor's Warhol ban stifles creativity

When censorship is imposed from above according to fluid political taboos, instead of by reference to community values, it can have bizarre results. One is that an exhibition of works by pop artist Andy Warhol and a mainland film about relationships and sexuality find themselves in the same boat.

Beijing says no to Mao on Warhol's mainland tour

Andy Warhol's famous images of Chairman Mao won't be part of the biggest travelling exhibition of the artist's works when they go to the mainland next year.

The show includes more than 300 paintings, photographs and films, featuring Warhol's iconic Campbell's Soup cans, Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, as well as 10 Mao paintings Beijing has decided to exclude.

Finding a greater role for the people in public museums

37 Andy Warhol works in Hong Kong in pre-auction exhibition

The Andy Warhol Foundation has engaged Christie's for future sales of Warhol's work from its collection.

The upcoming Hong Kong Private Sales exhibition follows the inaugural New York auction of Warhol at Christie's, which totalled more than US$17 million. The sale will feature 37 works by Warhol at a variety of price levels.

Warhol's sweeping strokes on hand-painted 1979 BMW M1 a perfect pop art tribute

Andy Warhol is a man who needs no introduction. Paying tribute on the 25th anniversary of his death, BMW has dedicated its Art Cars programme this year to the father of pop art.

Following the display last year at the Hong Kong International Art Fair of the M3 painted by Jeff Koons, a 1979 BMW M1 racing car used as a canvas by Warhol, will be showcased at this year's fair.
