Victim may be police officer

Police are investigating whether a 44-year-old woman who committed suicide in her car near her Quarry Bay home yesterday is a police officer. A sticker from Crime Kowloon West Headquarters was found on the Mercedes Benz, in which the body of the woman, surnamed Chow, was found at 4.45pm along with burned charcoal. The car was at Grand Plaza Apartments in Kornhill Road.

An investigation has been launched into the electrocution of a 12-year-old boy, who died as he climbed a ladder in a light well to retrieve a football.

Electricians have been unable to find the source of the shock which killed Primary Five student Cheuk Lei-lung.

Mariner sues over quality of hotel building

Subsidiaries of two prominent developers appeared in court yesterday in a row over the construction of a $1.07 billion hotel in Tsuen Wan.

Mariner International Hotels, a subsidiary of Sino Land, is suing a Hang Lung Group construction company for $321 million, claiming a 1996 agreement for the provision of the hotel was breached.

Misleading sign

In Hong Kong, so many road signs confuse motorists.

One prime example is the sign at North Point which is supposed to guide eastbound traffic on the Eastern Corridor to the right lane leading to Kornhill, so they do not go into the lane that takes them to the Eastern Harbour Crossing, or drive straight on to Chai Wan.

Not fooled by KMB

I read with wry amusement the letter from KMB (South China Morning Post, November 21) attempting to justify the continuation of video advertising on buses.

They are fooling no one.

Regarding their 'customer survey', we all know that if you ask your questions in a particular way, you can elicit exactly the response you want.
