Concern at high cost of public interest messages

Taxpayers foot the bill for a string of bland announcements, say critics

They remind us to wash our hands, not to spit, to clean up after our dogs and even not to lean out of high-rise windows.

While most probably ignore them and some dismiss them as moronic, there is mounting concern over the cost of producing these announcements of public interest (API).

Clear on preventing panic

I wish to thank the writer of the letter, 'Shoulder responsibility for children in crowds' (South China Morning Post, April 11), for his attention regarding Government Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs).

Obviously, the API is not intended to suggest the manner in which people should carry their children. Nor does it seek to highlight the right of police.
