Embattled Tsang sees slight rise in popularity

The chief executive's popularity rating has recovered slightly after falling last month to a level approaching a 'credibility crisis'.

The findings came as the government reiterated that the present system for the chief executive to declare his interests was effective, despite criticism that Donald Tsang Yam-kuen had been guilty of favouritism.

Confidence in the health chief has dropped after a series of medical blunders involving substandard drugs produced locally as a result of slack government monitoring, a survey has found.

But the popularity ratings of the chief executive and financial secretary improved, the worsening economy and criticism of the government's failure to help notwithstanding.

Confidence tricks

At a time when job losses and financial stress are creating undue pressures on many, confidence levels are likely to be heading as far south as the major stock indices.

But there are ways to ensure you don't sink into a low self-confidence spiral - a situation that can spark off many other woes, say personal development coaches.

Confidence is a preference

Be confident, but not arrogant. Self-confidence is important for everyone. Determination and perseverance can help us achieve our goals.

However, we should not be over-confident because that can lead to failure.

Those with an aggressive attitude cannot do a job properly. They are too proud and fail to grab every opportunity.

Better scheduling would solve dispute over bar benders

The current bar benders' strike in Hong Kong has brought many construction sites to a halt, and has affected the whole of society. I think this is a resource scheduling problem, and I believe there is a win-win solution.

As skilled labourers, bar benders cut, bend and fix steel beams according to drawings and bending schedules.

free to be me

Dear Jaime,

I'm so worried about my future. I am having many tests this month. I have tried to study but I find English so difficult. I can't understand some of the new words, can't spell them or don't know when to use them. I think I'm going to fail this exam.

BLINK AND YOU will miss it, I said little more than a week ago, of fears that higher interest rates following the latest adjustment to the peg would cause confidence in the property market to falter.
