Until about a couple of years ago, there were only a few public relations companies in town which handled the arts. I guess there just wasn't that much art to deal with back then.

Cafe serves up a taste of local video arts

There were no delicious coffees or cosy sofas, yet media arts lovers still enjoyed a fruitful evening at Video Cafe.

Videos by four young artists - Kedy Fan, Wanda Choi, Woo Ling-ling and Stella So - were screened last week at the 'cafe', held at Videotage in the Cattle Depot Artist Village in Kowloon's To Kwa Wan.

City University has unveiled a three-dimensional computer project called Body Brush, which it says is a coming together of art and technology.

The system installed at City University's campus in Kowloon Tong uses two cameras to capture motion and university-designed software to translate that motion into sweeping brush strokes on a 3D canvas.

Born With Magic - Genesis, City Hall Theatre, August 7 In the beginning Tnuatron created darkness and much squealing from toddlers.

Down on stage, a man swallowed light and then blew it back and there was day. The stars and the moon were a silver Atlas, a human strobe. A swathe of sheeting bubbled and erupted to become the Earth.

The Arts Festival continues this week and I hope everyone is filling in the annual questionnaire, especially the bit that asks: 'When a company sponsors the arts, does it make you buy their products?' The correct answer, if you want an Arts Festival 1998, is 'Yes, yes, yes'. It is actually quite refreshing for the Arts Festival to raise the matter so bluntly.
