Asia Art Archive's annual auction set for November 24

The Asia Art Archive, one of the most important and influential arts organisations in the region, will be holding its annual auction on November 24 at the China Club to raise funds for its operations, programmes and endowment.

Last year the auction raised money for the archive's new website and Collection Online, enabling global access to its extensive digital collection.

Claire Hsu: Artistic visionary preserving Asia's art history

Set up as a public entity, the Asia Art Archive actually began as "a personal project to solve a personal problem", says Claire Hsu, the archive's co-founder and executive director. The idea was born out of her frustration at locating reference material for her dissertation on contemporary Chinese art at the University of London.

Write about Asian art for art's sake and get some money for your own sake

The booming market is a clear indication: Asian art is hot! To encourage people not just to invest in it, but also study it, the Asia Art Archive created the Martell Contemporary Asian Art Research Grant in 2005. The organisation wants to push more research and in-depth analytical writing, suggesting it's important for long-term appreciation of the region's contemporary culture.
