ADB pulls back on growth forecast

The Asian Development Bank has lowered its economic growth forecasts again for China and the rest of Asia for this year and the next, and warned that if the euro-zone crisis worsened, the economies of China and Asia would deteriorate further.

ADB cuts regional growth forecast

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has lowered it growth forecast for economic growth in Asia (excluding Japan) this year from 7.8 per cent to 7.5 per cent.

It also cut its growth estimate for 2012 for the region to 7.5 per cent, from 7.7 per cent.

ADB sets benchmarks in 1.2b yuan bond sale

The Asian Development Bank broke new ground in the nascent, offshore yuan-denominated bond market yesterday, pricing the longest-tenored issue to be released so far and the first by a supranational borrower. ADB's issue carries a 10-year maturity and was increased in size to 1.2 billion yuan (HK$1.4 billion) from one billion yuan after it was more than two times oversubscribed.

ADB urges caution over rapid growth

The mainland's economy could be hurt by soaring inflation and a possible stock market downturn, the Asian Development Bank warned yesterday as it lifted its forecast on the country's economic growth this year to 11.2 per cent.

Inflation was expected to hit 4.2 per cent this year, above the government's target of less than 3 per cent, on higher food prices, the ADB said.

ADB aims to raise 1bn yuan in bonds

The Asian Development Bank is discussing with the Ministry of Finance a plan to raise 1 billion yuan in bonds to stimulate private-sector growth in China.

The bond issue - pending approval by the ministry - could take place as early as the end of this year. The bank says the issue would also help develop the bond market on the mainland.
