The pilot of the crashed Asiana plane at San Francisco airport was still “in training” for the Boeing 777 when he attempted to land the aircraft under supervision on Saturday, the South Korean airline said.

Wang Linjia, 16, and Ye Mengyuan, 17, were students at Jiangshan Middle School in eastern China. Reports say one of them may have been run over by an emergency vehicle at the scene of the crash in San Francisco.

China was in mourning yesterday for two teenage girls killed when a South Korean passenger jet crashed at San Francisco airport. Many reached out to their families, only too aware of the impact of the loss of an only child.

Friends and relatives of Chinese passengers onboard the South Korean-owned passenger jet that crashed at San Francisco airport killing two and injuring 182 were anxiously waiting on Sunday for news of their loved ones.

Saturday's crash was the first fatal accident involving a Boeing 777, a family of twin-engined long-haul aircraft that has been in service for the past 18 years. With more than five million flights, according to Boeing, it remains one of the industry's solid workhorses.

An Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 with 307 people on board crashed and burst into flames as it landed at San Francisco International Airport. Passengers included 141 Chinese, 77 South Koreans, 61 US citizens and one Japanese citizen.

300 tourists stranded by snow

Asiana looks to Speedwing for efficiency boost

Asiana Cargo is set to unveil a new system for movement of containers which will boost the efficiency of its services.

Asiana Cargo general manager of the Hong Kong district office, Jong-jin Kim, says the system is being developed by Speedwing - an aviation-related consultancy subsidiary of British Airways - for Asiana and Eva Air as well.

Asiana Airlines to increase cargo services to territory

South Korea's Asiana Airlines plans to increase its 10 daily passenger flights between Hong Kong and Seoul to 14 in the near future, including two cargo flights.

Asiana's general manager of Hong Kong district operations, Jong Jin-kim, said the plans depended heavily on the outcome of discussions between the South Korean and Chinese governments.
