Oral sex with underage girl can be legal

Adults who receive oral sex from underaged girls are not breaking the law unless they touch them, a court heard yesterday.

Violent crime

I refer to John Wilson's letter (South China Morning Post, January 31), in which he queried the Australian Government's decision to refuse a tourist visa to Brian Kan.

While Mr Wilson may very well find the situation 'ridiculous', I take issue with his opinion that a conviction for indecent assault is a crime of a 'relatively minor' nature.

A Hong Kong international rugby player appeared in court yesterday accused of punching a chef he thought was sweet-talking his fiancee.

Isi Tu'ivai, 26, faced a charge of causing bodily harm to Carl Duggan on May 18. No plea was given and the case adjourned to Wednesday.

Police officers threatened to shoot a barge worker to get him to admit he tried to have sex with his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter, a court heard yesterday.

The man said a Yuen Long officer and three members of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit beat him and said they would put three bullets in his head after he was accused of committing an indecent assault on the girl.

A police superintendent who sexually assaulted a cleaner was jailed yesterday for six months after the Court of Appeal criticised a $5,000 fine as 'shocking and clearly inadequate'.

Mr Justice Charles Ching branded Peter MacLennan's behaviour as 'cowardly and sordid' and said he was astonished at the paltry penalty imposed by Magistrate Timothy Jenkins.

A 36-year-old Vietnamese man from Whitehead Detention Centre was charged with common assault and possession of an offensive weapon. He is accused of assaulting a Correctional Services Department officer and having a metal bar during the detention centre riots on May 10. He will appear in Sha Tin Court this morning.

FOUR anti-triad officers yesterday denied assaulting three undercover colleagues at a police liaison centre on a Chai Wan housing estate.

Growing claims against officers

THE number of complaints against the police force has risen 17 per cent in the second quarter this year, compared with the same period last year.

From April to June the Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) received 873 public complaints, up from 749 cases in the second quarter in 1994.

The complaints encompassed 1,088 allegations.

YOUR editorial concerning the Correctional Services Department (CSD) officer (March 18) fined for an assault at Whitehead Detention Centre was based on an inaccurate report and was not fair to the magistrate whom you criticised.

The report was misleading and should not be allowed to go uncorrected.

A DOCTOR accused of indecently assaulting a patient four times in two days was cleared at Eastern Court yesterday.

Acquitting Dr Ian Denis Michael Dos Remedios, 35, of four counts of indecent assault, Magistrate Jonathan Acton-Bond said the 20-year-old alleged victim was a complicated person.

Teacher in sex assault on pupil

AN art teacher who was caught indecently assaulting a teenage pupil in a classroom was jailed for three years yesterday.

The man, 37, had formed a relationship with the girl, 15, and she fully consented, the High Court heard.

They were discovered when other teachers burst into the room and found the teacher and pupil committing a sex act.
