A 32-year-old delivery motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident with a taxi at the junction of Austin Road and Chatham Road South in Tsim Sha Tsui at 5.45am yesterday.

Dozens have lucky escape in Tsim Sha Tsui building blaze

About 100 residents were forced to flee their homes yesterday morning when a blaze broke out at a 40-year-old building in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The fire started in an empty flat on the fourth floor of the Comfort Building in Nathan Road shortly after 8.10am and was upgraded to a No3 alarm 20 minutes later.

An off-duty policeman shot two uniformed constables, killing one of them, with a gun stolen from and used to kill an officer five years ago, police sources said yesterday.

Falling steel bar kills worker

A worker, 33, was killed after he was hit by a falling steel bar at a construction site in Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Two other workers, aged 24 and 39, were also hit and injured. Police said four steel bars, each about a metre long, fell from the sixth floor.

Robber grabs $5,000

A man, 36, was dragged by a robber into a lane, where he was assaulted and robbed of $5,000 and a gold bracelet after getting out of a taxi in Austin Road, Yau Ma Tei. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Murder case before court

Unemployed Marciana Guanzo, 42, appeared in Western Court yesterday accused of murdering Mohammed Sajawal, 50, on April 18 in a watchman's cubicle in the Foo Hoo Centre, Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

No plea was taken. The case was adjourned to May 14.

A man, 78, was in poor condition after being hit by concrete which fell from a building at the junction of Austin Road and Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Car hits eight

A CAR knocked down eight pedestrians at the junction of Nathan Road and Austin Road in Tsim Sha Tsui last night. It had been travelling east along Austin Road when it collided with a car heading south down Nathan Road, hit pedestrians on a traffic island and then mounted the pavement near the MTR station injuring several other people.

Case with $600,000 grabbed

A BUSINESSMAN'S plan to buy a flat was foiled when his briefcase containing $600,000 in cash was snatched by four men in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday.

Lai Ah-wan, 69, was waiting in an Austin Road restaurant for a friend after withdrawing $600,000 from the Hang Seng Bank at the junction of Nathan Road and Pak Hoi Street.
