Hamilton keen to build on strong start

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel takes pole for F1 Australian GP

Vettel qualified in a time of 1 minute, 27.407 seconds around the Albert Park circuit, and was joined in an all-Red Bull front row by teammate Mark Webber, who was 0.4 seconds behind.

Jorge Lorenzo sealed his second world MotoGP crown after his challenger crashed out, while Casey Stoner claimed his sixth straight Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island yesterday.

McLaren off to a flyer as Mercedes wait in wings

Charging down to the first corner in Melbourne, we confirmed that McLaren have at last started a season on the front foot, something underlined by their dominance in qualifying.

Pit Stop

It took a while, but at last the 2011 Formula One season is under way. The lights that go out on the grid on Sunday won't be in Bahrain, but in Melbourne. It's a shame that Bahrain had to be cancelled but as one reporter put it, there's no point having a F1 race when you can't even drive to the end of the road.

Rosberg realistic about his goals in Formula One's 'fourth-fastest' car

In shiny black pointed shoes and with his blond hair slicked back, AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg assessed the performance of one of the men driving a modified F1 simulator.

'Yes, that would be a very bad crash,' Rosberg said into a microphone, as he stood over the man's shoulder, unobtrusively but still very much present.
