Move to cut tunnel traffic congestion

There is a lot of talk again about the congestion at the Cross-Harbour Tunnel. Some of this congestion can be easily prevented, as I have suggested numerous times to the tunnel's management.

Long tunnel queues

When will the operators of the Cross-Harbour Tunnel respond pro-actively to their customers' needs by installing additional autotoll booths?

It is now becoming commonplace that the rush-hour queues at the two existing autotoll booths for Hong Kong-bound vehicles (one of which is heavily used by buses) are far lengthier than the queues at the five other manned booths.

Extra lane needed

I have recently subscribed to an Autotoll pass in the belief that it would save me time when using the tunnels.

Whilst this is true in some cases, it is certainly not the case for the Cross Harbour Tunnel.

Tunnel firms fair to all drivers

I refer to Blake Williams' letter (South China Morning Post, April 14) expressing his dissatisfaction about the autotoll service at the Eastern Harbour Tunnel.

Planning to have extra signs

I refer to Suresh Khilari's letter headlined, 'Toll slip-up proves costly' (South China Morning Post, March 1), concerning his experience in using the autotoll facility at Tate's Cairn Tunnel.

Toll booths must cater for all motorists

I REFER to A. Williams' letter (South China Morning Post, January 12) expressing dissatisfaction with the autotoll service at the Eastern Harbour Tunnel.

The New Hong Kong Tunnel Company Limited has invested a great deal of money in introducing an autotoll service at the Eastern Harbour Tunnel for the convenience of the public.
