ISM officials pleased at low detention rate

Of 62 International Safety Management (ISM) Code inspections carried out during a concentrated campaign last year, Hong Kong port-state control authorities detained only one vessel for non-compliance.

The campaign, between July 1 and September 30, led to 63 detentions involving 61 vessels in the Asia-Pacific region.

3.6pc fail in opening ISM code campaign

Asian port authorities detained 67 of 1,847 vessels inspected for non-compliance with the International Maritime Organisation's international safety management (ISM) code during a three-month inspection campaign.

Aiming for safety aspect in tender assessments

I refer to Chris Maden's letter on the public works tender system (South China Morning Post, June 25).

Mr Maden will be pleased to know that the Chairman of the Central Tender Board has already asked that a system of tender assessment is developed that takes into account matters other than money, including in particular site safety.
