No go as Bulgarians deported

HK medal hopes left in tatters

HONG KONG'S hopes of further medals in badminton were dismantled, piece by piece, during the course of the quarter-finals at the McKinnon Gymnasium.

The territory had four representatives in the quarter-finals with victory in any one of them ensuring at least another bronze to go with the mixed team bronze won earlier in the competition.

Mixed success for HK

HONG Kong's top mixed doubles pair, Chan Siu-kwong and Chung Hoi-yuk, overcame a first-set deficit to power their way into the quarter-finals of the 555 China Open in Guangzhou yesterday.

The third-seeds looked nervous at the start of the match against China's Liu Jianjun and Wang Xiaoyuan but slowly found their composure for a convincing 11-15, 15-12, 15-3 victory.
