BAE-EADS merger talks

London-based multinational defence & aerospace company BAE systems and European Aeronautic, Defence & Space, the owner of Airbus, had a talk in September 2012 regarding a possible merger involving US$45 billion and 220000 employees across more than 50 countries, accounts the biggest merger of the industry in history. But the merger was called off on October 10, 2012 hours before deadline expired. German government is believed to be the biggest stumbling behind the talk. BAE chairman Dick Olver said he would not revisit merger talks with EADS.
